New For 2010

Hello Ladies,
I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas holiday. It has been busy around here, but I am excited for the new year and want to get a plan for book club. For 2010, I am wondering how many of you are A.) still interested in participating, B.) would be willing to host book club at your house once or twice throughout the year C.) would be interested in posting (short) book reviews on the blog.

If you have enjoyed book club, but do not think you will be able to read/join us this year - that's okay - please let me know and I'll take you off the list. If you are planning to attend this year - please comment or send me an email letting me know your answers to A, B and C. Also, send several book ideas for 2010 - I'll start compiling the list. And finally - send me names of anyone you think might like to join with us and I'll send them an invite!

I may not have as much time to devote to book club next year, but I'd really like to keep it going with your help. I have some ideas for a few new things and hope to keep it fun for everybody. Love, Tamara

Year End Thank You

I just wanted to offer a sincere thank-you for those who came last night and for those who came through the year. It is so fun to read good books and share what we think with great friends. Book club is taking a little holiday -( so we can all enjoy ours). I will send an email sometime in December with plans for next year. Thanks again. Have a great day.
Love, Tamara

Meeting Date Changed

A few important changes: I need to move October's discussion to Thursday the 29th (instead of the 22nd) due to a change in YW activity. We are still reading Little Women. Be sure and read for your favorite quote or passage to share. (Come to think of it - it doesn't have to be your favorite - just one you want to share!) For November's meeting - I am considering the first week in December and throw in some holiday fun. Stay tuned. And oh- we have a new background - Thanks Amy for getting us coordinated! I love it! Have a great day, ladies & happy reading.

Meeting Wrap-Up

Thanks to everyone who came tonight including Amy who gave the author into and Tara who brought yummy treats & everyone's great comments. Our book for next month will be Little Women by Louisa Alcott. (I made this switch for a few reasons, one being that "I am a mother" by Jane Clayson is 15.95 @ DB). I like having books we can get at the libary or borrow. If I pick up a copy of Clayson's book - I will pass it around, so let me know if you are interested.

Our next meeting is October 22nd and it is the time of year when I ask for book ideas. So-get your lists ready, at least five titles - you know, classics or similar or a new book that has been reccomended/read by someone who can give background. I compile the list from everyone and we work on that to get our list for 2010. (wow, it's wierd just writing that date!)

I also wanted to ask anyone recieving the book club emails if you are still interested in participating in Book Club next year? If you are, that is great - I love to have you. If for whatever reason you do not think you want to attend - please let me know and I will take your email off the list so you do not get bombarded with all the announcements.

Thanks and have a great weekend. Happy Reading. Love, Tamara

A Few Items

Thanks to everybody who came last week. We had a great discussion and yummy treats - thank you Lani! I forgot to hand out the circle journal - if anyone wants it that hasn't had it yet - let me know - otherwise I'll give it to whoever is next on the list. Also, for anyone that wasn't there - we are reading Lonesome Gods by Louis L'Amour for September, but the books for October and November might change. I'm checking on them and will let you know. Have a great day & happy reading. ~ Tamara

Circle Journal?

So I checked the blog today and realized there hadn't been a post since April. Summer has a way of demanding all your time, doesn't it? I was wondering who has the circle journal - please let me know. I am going to be better about helping it move along and a few who had it earlier in the year have asked if they could look at it/read it to see what else had been written. Our next meeting is still scheduled for August 27th and we are reading Laddie/Porter (400 pages - yikes - I better get reading!). I posted new assignments on the sidebar, too. Thanks for all your input and support. Love Tamara

Meeting Wrap-Up

Thanks to everyone who came & for another great discussion. We always miss those who can't make it-but we understand. News from the meeting: Amy is working on finding a Friday night for us to get together and watch North and South. Let her know if you have an open Friday in May. (Even if you haven't read the book - the movie is great!) The book for May is still "Little Britches" by Moody - but we will be meeting at Cherene's house - May 28th. We'll be sure and send another reminder email with the start time and new assignments. I'll be revising those because we have all these great new ladies coming to book club. It was great to have Lani and Tami Longhurst join us last night. The only other news I can't help myself from sharing is Michelle's (wedding) date: May 16th!!! Congrats Michelle - we are all excited for you.

Welcome!

Just wanted to say welcome to Johnna and Lani. Johnna was a good sport to visit our group last week with such short notice. We loved having you come! I talked with Lani yesterday and she is planning on meeting with us in April. We are looking forward to it. If anyone has any tips on where Noth and South is the cheapest and/or libraries that have copies - let us know. Thanks & have a great day. Love, Tamara

New Year, New Look

Hello Everyone,

I finally took some time to learn more about blogging and give our blog an updated look. I hope you like it. I'm also trying to have current info on here as well. It's a little early for the RSVP email but I don't mind hearing how the reading is going and if you happen to know already if you have a conflict for next Thursday - that's good to know too. Hope you are well & enjoy your spring break. Love, Tamara

February Date Change

Hi Ladies,

It looks like we might need to change our night for February. How does Tuesday, Feb 24th sound? If you could rsvp asap then we can get it on the calendar.

Also, I just got a Deseret Book flyer - it looks like Wednesday Letters is on clearance for 1.99! (I hope I read that right). If anyone hasn't read it yet, or maybe read it and liked it enough to buy it - that's quite a steal.

Hope you are well & looking forward to seeing you soon. Love, Tamara

Twilight Movie Review

OK, I thought while I was on here posting, I'd just make a little commentary about the Twilight Movie. I have seen it four times now (which is huge for me because I rarely ever see movies at the theater). The first time I saw it, I had really mixed emotions because I loved the book SO MUCH, and the movie of course was not as good as the book (what movie ever is?) Each time I have seen the movie since then, I have liked it better and better. I think the first time, I had a lot of gripes about how the movie differed from the book, and I couldn't get past that. I love the order that everything in their relationship happens in the book, and I was annoyed that some things were out of order, and I hated the meadow scene. But once I came to terms with the fact that the movie wasn't the same as the book, I was able to appreciate the movie for what it was. Chuck came with me the second time I saw the movie, and he thought it was really slow and uninteresting. It was fun to ask him if he understood the little things that the movie didn't explain very well (he didn't get why their eyes change color for instance). The third time I saw the movie, I went with my mom, who had read all the books but hadn't seen the movie yet. She LOVED the movie, and by that time, I loved it too. I checked back with Twilight (and Midnight Sun), and was surprised that some of the scenes that bugged me from the movie were straight from the books (like when Edward tears off the tree branch and throws it, and is saying something like, "as if you could outrun me...") And the way Rob Pattinson played certain scenes really bugged me the first time I saw it, but now I think he did a really good job playing a tourtured Edward. Kristen Stewart as Bella still bugs me--I think her acting was kind of lame. I hate how she never really smiles, and I think the depth of her feelings for Edward never really shines through. But even still, I really love the Twilight Movie now, and I can't wait to see it again, and to own it and watch it over and over. I know the movie came out almost two months ago, but I would love to hear anyone else's two cents about it. :) Love, Cherene

The Wednesday Letters

Hey Ladies!
I was at Half Price Books last week, and saw The Wednesday Letters there, so I went ahead and bought the book (because I had been on the waiting list at the library for a while, and didn't know how much longer it would be before it was available). ANYWAY, I finished reading it tonight (it was a really fast and easy read), so I just wanted to offer to lend it out if any of you don't have a copy yet. Just let me know if you'd like to borrow it. Also, I have The Host (by Stephenie Meyer) if anyone ever wants to borrow that (I thought it was really good). :)
